Briefly share how you became a freelancer.

As a working artist, I became a freelance to sustain my love of travel and working with new clients across the country. After working full-time for a decade for an innovation agency and boutique creative firm in New York City, going freelance in my 30’s allowed me to finally return to my beloved home-state of Texas and continue my career as a Live Illustrator and Visual Storyteller.

What has been your biggest win as a freelancer?

Scribing on stage for Neil Young during his SXSWi talk on technology in the music industry; I created live visuals of Neil Young’s presentation in front of a SXSWi audience of 5 thousand people AND I got to meet one of my favorite musicians afterwards!

What are some of the hurdles you’ve overcome as a freelancer in Houston? Do you think this hurdles are indicative to Houston or to the freelancer profession overall?

As a freelancer now based in Texas, I wish I worked with more Texas-based companies! So many of my client contacts are in New York City. I find it is hard as a freelancer to find local Texas clients. I’d love to find more local Texas clients, because I really enjoy meeting more people inside my community.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a freelancer?

Cultivate positivity! Be absolutely kind to every person that you meet! As a freelancer, professionalism and personality are valuable assets to a client and when collaborating on a team.

Let’s say I’m a client that’s looking to hire a freelancer that does what you do. Why should I hire you?

With over 10+ years of experience working as a Visual Storyteller with Fortune 500 clients located across the USA, I bring both my artistic skills and a burst of positivity to all engagements and projects!
