Briefly share how you became a freelancer.
After working as an advertising vendor for more than a decade, I realized that I wanted to do more for my clients to help them become successful. I built very close relationships with my clients and often consulted them on marketing outside of what I was selling. I knew that my product was just a small piece of their plan. The business owners I worked with didn’t have the time to analyze their marketing often and as a result, they experienced duplication, marketing waste and lower profits. I took the opportunity to handle all of the marketing for my clients in order to help them figure out the cracks in their plan and how to make it work for them. This was great timing since most marketers had to cut budgets during the pandemic. More than ever, this is a time that advertisers need to ensure that everything they are doing is working. I have been able to provide that assurance for my clients and as a result, they can focus on the internal working of their business and what they need to do to keep things running.
What has been your biggest win as a freelancer?
Running effective campaigns for my clients and keeping increasing their website traffic/sales.
What are some of the hurdles you’ve overcome as a freelancer in Houston? Do you think this hurdles are indicative to Houston or to the freelancer profession overall?
Changing advertising messaging during the pandemic after many businesses had to close or have limited customers. Keeping website traffic up was key since many people are shopping online more than ever.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out as a freelancer?
Over service your clients as much as possible and always be available. Go into it with a mindset of what you can do to make your client’s life easier.
